Violin, Deutschheim historic site
Musical traditions of the German immigrants. Many of the immigrants brought with them musical instruments that they valued and one example would be the violin. They didn’t have the opportunity to have entertainment as we do today with TV and the Internet so everything they made themselves, they entertained themselves, they loved to hear their music. A violin shop actually existed here in Hermann that was from the Schroeder family. Mr. Pommer in Philadelphia was the maker of a violin, as well as guitars and the pianoforte. So the violin would have been an easily-transported and important part of the musical tradition of the German immigrants.
