Artifacts of Immigration

Introduction

NOTE: This site is under construction! Feel free to look around.

This site compiles the material culture that German immigrants either brought with them to America, or created shortly after arriving. The website holds both items from historic societies and museums, and from the public. It includes GIS components, references to time periods and interpretation of the culture to provide context to the stories that the immigrants' descendents tell about their passage and settlement in Missouri.

This project is part of the Missouri German Corridor project. The “Corridor” is a way of conceiving of a coherent story in Missouri’s history. There are many German settlements, large and small, throughout Missouri; this project will tie in as many of those communities and their stories as possible.
