Biedermeier Secretary of William Pommer

Biedermeier furniture. This is a beautiful example of Biedermeier furniture that was created in the time period from about 1819 through 1848—the revolutions that occurred at that point. This is something that the middle class was—an expression of their design preferences. And also a reflection of the gilds that produced the magnificent cabinetwork that the Germans brought with them to the United States. This particular secretary was donated to Deutschheim from northern Germany and was the gift of—to the site from Dr. Barnstorf's estate. He brought it with him from Germany and it is a fine example of a secretary of this time period.
