7. 3.32: Engravings of the Holy Sepulchres at Northwold and Heckington Crosses (2 of 2) Plates 3.31-3.32 depict Holy Sepulchres at Northwold and Heckington. These were used for the Deposition and Resurrection rituals on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Plate 3.31 depicts the Northwold Sepulchre (probably late fifteenth century): a relief wall-monument taking an arcaded, pinnacled and vaulted architectural form, in broadly four registers. Plate 3.32 depicts the Heckington Sepulchre (early fourteenth century): a relief wall-monument in broadly three registers. Both drawings are done without scale. Plate 3.38: Engraving of a Chimney Piece in the Bishop’s Palace at Exeter Plate 3.38 of Vetusta Monumenta depicts a late-fifteenth century chimneypiece erected by Bishop Peter Courtenay in the Bishop’s Palace, Exeter. It was originally placed in Bishop John de Grandisson’s parlor in the west wing of the palace, but was moved to the east wing during eighteenth-century renovations for Bishop Frederick Keppel and then to the drawing room in 1952. 14. Plate 3.39: Engraving of a Tessellated Pavement at Colchester Plate 3.39 of Vetusta Monumenta depicts a second-century CE Roman mosaic pavement in Colchester, Essex. Numerous borders characterize the pavement’s design, including an outer border of red tesserae, the delicate floral scroll border further within the pavement, and circular borders at the center made up of wave and triangle patterns. Plate 3.42 (upper half) shows a highly detailed elevation of the south wall; the lower half includes a plan of the basement level (Fig. 2), the left-hand side of the plan (Fig. 3), and numerous architectural elements including door surrounds and column capitals (labeled I-Y). Plate 3.43 involves a highly detailed sectional drawing throughout the whole height of the building, the first such drawing to be published.
