German Immigration to Missouri: Time Periods

1. 1819-1848​, Early Settlement: People, settlement and emigration societies that played a role in the beginning of the emigration movement.

2. 1848-1866, Revolutionary: Germans that came from Europe’s revolutions and were instrumental in results of the Civil War in America.

3. 1866-1900, Growth and Prosperity: When Missouri’s German industries and businesses cemented their positive image in the United States.

4. 1900-1945, World at War: The events of World Wars I and II greatly affected and would nearly decimate the pride in the heritage that Germans brought with them, and in many ways returned U.S. sentiments to pre-Civil War.

5. Post-1945​, Modern: Societies and businesses that share their German heritage today, preserving and enhancing the new cultural heritage.
