Lakeb7829cc6981c2837dafd356811d9393ab4d81adc315Plates 1.66-1.68 of Vetusta Monumenta present a portrait of Robert Cotton and fragments from a manuscript in his collection, the Cotton Genesis. The portrait (c. 1626) shown on Plate 1.66 is now attributed to Cornelius Johnson. Plates 1.67-1.68 depict twenty-one fragments from eighteen folio pages of the Cotton Genesis collated with transcriptions from the Codex Vaticanus. Two additional pages from the Cotton Genesis are depicted on the portrait. Engraved by George Vertue after Johnson’s painting and his own watercolors of the Cotton Genesis fragments. Published by the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1744.
